Modeling Mineral Scaling in Matalibong Sector of Tiwi Geothermal Field, Albay, Bicol, Philippines

Mineral scaling constitutes a major problem in geothermal fields. It imposes adverse impacts on the performance of power plant as mineral precipitates and clogs facilities, affecting steam production. This paper identifies processes leading to formation calcite, pyrite, anhydrite scales Well-1 located at Matalibong sector, one production sectors Tiwi Geothermal Field, Albay, Philippines, using CHIM-XPT (2016). Reconstruction reservoir water, cooling, adiabatic boiling, fluid-fluid mixing, isothermal simulations were performed. In addition established temperature pressure, fluid flow rate wellbore geometry (pipe length inner diameter) considered factors scale formation. Results geochemical modeling showed that could be product boiling cooling mixed cold spring water reconstructed water. Key findings show constant temperature, event occurs when pressure is reduced due lower with respect its depth minerals, specifically anhydrite. Decreasing also triggers boiling. Kinetics can promote where changes conditions scales. With this better understanding how formed Well-1, and, thus, avoided or minimized by proper monitoring control well.
